It's going really well today

Near Third Street, there was a playground for kids, complete with rides, crafts, clowns, and a magic show. Less than a block away, there was a crowd at the sand art vendor and a long line for face paint. "The kids are always happy when they get their faces painted," said Guttenberg resident Rosie Perdomo, who came to the festival with her two daughters, wholesale New York Yankees HatsJasmine and Bella.

Three stages showcased live entertainment, bands like, the Fave, and the Guitar Bar All Stars as well as other groups like the Newport Dance Ensemble from Jersey City.

"It's going really well today," said Steve Feinstein, a local resident who was volunteering for the Liberty Humane Society. "It looks fantastic, beautiful weather, not too mobbed but just crowded enough that you have to walk slowly and wait in line to get to some of the more busy food places."

It's all connected, people! Except, of course,Cheap Boston Red Sox Hats  it isn't. Glenn Beck isn't an anti-semite. Adolf Hitler was not a leftist. There are a couple of legitimate ways to compare the two, notably that both employ an argumentative style in which the claim that one is speaking forbidden truths is enlisted to ward off outraged reactions to what are in fact slanderous lies. But there are good reasons why people refrain from doing things like comparing their opponents to Nazis, and one of them is that once the gloves come off, it's hard to get them back on again.

Willems said most hats are delivered to grieving parents

"The first thing I ever made was an angora ear warmer that tied under my chin," said Draznin. "It was white and fuzzy and I was very proud of it."

Willems said most hats are delivered to grieving parents. A number go to hospitals, and some have even been sent years after a loss as a keepsake. There was even a couple who lost one twin and wanted the keepsake hat so the survivor would have some memory of the sibling he'd never know.

The most impressive thing about Selfridges' new shoe hall

The most impressive thing about Selfridges' new shoe hall – which opened this week, claiming to be the world's largest – is not the 4,000 shoes on display, the 35,000 square feet of dedicated shoe space, or the 55,000 pairs of shoes in stock at any one time. The most impressive thing is that after having spent nearly an hour in there, wholesale Boston Red Sox Hats  I came out empty handed.

A FLASHY advertising campaign has been launched to convince overstressed and overworked Sydneysiders to ditch the city for a more peaceful life in Orange.

The Evocities initiate will bombard radio, Cheap Atlanta Braves Hats magazines and billboards with material to plant the seed for making a tree change to seven major regional cities.

The campaign is designed to lure more lure people west like milliner Fiona Schofield who, in 2004, gave up a career as a fashion designer in Sydney and moved to Orange.

“I think there’s a real miscommunication about life in a regional area and somehow people think you’re sacrificing something by moving away from a Sydney lifestyle,” Mrs Schofield said yesterday.

49ers-Chargers

First Drive Of The Half: Smith, from under center hands off to Gore, who goes seven yards. On the next play, it's David Carr who lines up under center with Brian Westbrook in the backfield. Carr takes the snap, then tosses it to the right side to Westbrook, who makes one player miss and then is running down the middle of the field. Nobody catches him and he goes 74 yards for the touchdown. With the extra point it's 10-7, wholesale 49ers jersey .

Ted Ginn takes the kickoff to the 19-yard line. I took control of the 49ers to put in backups but the first play will be starters.

Halftime: Looks like the 49ers aren't doing much more than running the ball and not being creative. Seems pretty true to life here.

On the 20-yard line with 1:10 to go, the 49ers are taking their time. Smith lines up under center and it's a hand-off to Westbrook, who picks up three yards. On the next play, it's a carry for cheap Frank Gore jersey again and he picks up a first down and more, carrying to the eight-yard line for a 49ers first and goal. The 49ers burn their second timeout, and it's Smith from the shotgun, who passes into the end-zone but it's broken up. 2nd and goal, from th shotgun, Smith hits Ginn over the middle who gets six yards. 3rd and goal with 30 seconds to go with two yards to pay dirt. It's a handoff to the left and Gore can't get it done. He loses a yard. 4th and goal. They kick a 20-yard field goal as time expires and the 49ers trail with three points to the Chargers' seven.

From the shotgun on first down, it's a handoff to Westbrook, who has a whole and goes up the middle for another 12 yards. It's the 2-minute warning. 1st and 10, Smith handsoff to Gore on the right side, but he cuts left and picks up nine yards when it looks like he's going to be brought down. 2nd and 1 on the 23-yard line. From under center, Smith drops back, has nobody really open and hits Gore on the left side who turns up and picks up three yards for another 49ers first down.

The next play, on first down, is a pass over the middle to Frank Gore who picks up nine yards bringing up 2nd and inches. It's Gore again after that, and he picks up three yards. 1st and 10 and it's a pitch to Gore, and he picks up two yards with horrible blocking. 2nd and 8 with 3 to go in the half. From the shotgun, it's a handoff to Brian Westbrook and it's very unimaginative. He loses two yards bringing up 3rd and 10. From the shotgun, it's a pass to Ginn, who goes back to make the catch, then turns up field and makes it past the first down marker. It's a 12-yard reception.

After The Score: From under center, Crabtree goes in motion from the right side, and it's an end-around, he picks up six yards. On second down, it's a handoff to Frank Gore jersey , who breaks three tackles and picks up six yards through the middle of the line.

The kickoff is taken by Ginn out of the end-zone to the 16-yard line.

The next play is yet another play action and a pass to Davis in the flat, who jogs in for a touchdown with nobody around him. With the extra point, the Chargers lead 7-0.

From the shotgun, It's a completion to Antonio Gates for six yards, over the middle. On the next play, it's to Wilson over the middle yet again - for six yards. 1st and 10 in the red zone. It's a handoff on first down to the left side for two yards. It's a fake and a pass over the middle on second down for six yards to Davis. End of the first quarter.

From the 49ers 46-yard line, it's a handoff to the left side outside, and Matthews picks up six yards before being trampled by several 49ers. On the next play, it's Naanee over the middle for a first down and more.

After The Punt: From under center Rivers hands off to Matthews, who is tackled by Parys Haralson after a gain of two. On the next play it's play action, then over the left side over Shawntae Spencer it's Naanee, who runs down the sideline and picks up the first down and more. It's a 32-yard completion before he's pushed out of bounds.

49ers Opening Drive After The Punt: From under center, Smith drops back to pass and throws a quick slant over the middle, but it's broken up and almost picked off by a Chargers linebacker. 2nd and 10, from under center in the I-formation, it's a handoff to Frank Gore on the left side, who picks up three yards before being brought down. 3rd and 7 now for the 49ers. Smith takes the snap from the shotgun and looks to have a man downfield, but commits to the play and dumpoffs to Gore on a screen, who only picks up a yard before being brought down. The 49ers elect to punt, and Lee puts it through the back of the end zone.

Chargers Opening Drive: From the shotgun, Rivers goes back to pass and is is immediately swarmed on by both Manny Lawson and Parys Haralson, and Lawson gets the sack for a seven yard loss. From the shotgun 2nd and 17, Rivers stands in the pocket, is pressured by Isaac Sopoaga and fires off a pass thirty yards downfield but it's broken up by Nate Clements. 3rd and long, from the shotgun, it's a pass to the right with pressure from Justin Smith, and it's caught out of bounds. It's a three-and-out for the Chargers, and they elect to punt. The 49ers have Ted Ginn back to return. He picks up about five yards and they're at the Chargers' 47-yard line.

It's 72 degrees or something along those lines. The camera before the game is showing Phillip Rivers, all kinds of smug getting off his bus, and now Collinsworth is ranting about how Rivers is the guy he's looking at for this game. The Chargers won the kickoff and elected to receive. Joe Nedney kicks off and it is taken from the end zone to the 17 by Sproles, where he is brought down by the first 49er, who happens to be Taylor Mays.

As far as the rosters go, they are going to be pretty far off. As in, Michael Crabtree will be playing for the 49ers, and the starters will likely play a full half of action. So don't read too much into it (honestly, who would at this point?) and just remember that this is for fun, and nothing more than that!

So basically, the situation is that I pop in Madden wholesale  NFL jersey 11 for the Xbox 360, turn the game on All-Madden difficulty with something like 8-minute quarters. I be sure to make the roster accurate, and I watch the game - providing commentary to all of you. At some point this year, I'd love to record a full game and provide audio commentary, but that's for the future. For now it's a good ol' text breakdown.

The Madden simulations (used loosely) continue with a look at tomorrow's game against the San Diego Chargers. So far, Madden has taken the 49ers as winners, albeit sometimes in very close matches. The end result isn't always right, and the stats aren't always right, but who cares? This is all for fun and I'm sure that Florida Danny will forgive me for calling them "simulations." Some things turn out pretty close, and it's fun to compare and see if anything can. For the most part, players that are "good" in real life tend to be "good" on Madden. For instance, Frank Gore kicks face in this game and Alex Smith tosses footballs way too high for receivers. It happens.

Stadium Technology

There is sure to be criticism that this is a gimmick—all to distract and detract from what fans should really be concentrating on, that is, the game itself. Yet such criticism lives-off old assumptions about technological concepts that either interrupted the experience in the stadium or did little to enhance it. Now that technology is being considered as a specific part of an interrelated and intercommunicated system of activity in new and different ways, it is an assumption that is fast becoming obsolete. This is because it is becoming increasingly clear that the key to the "fan experience" is not the availability of electronic devices which were the stuff of dreams a decade ago. Rather, it is the reorganization of information; the electronic device is only a trigger.

But this dimension is beginning to be overturned. Twelve wholesale NFL jerseys teams plan to use FanVision this fall, an interactive handheld wireless device, the technology of which is owned by Miami Dolphins chairman Stephen Ross. The device, which the Dolphins first began distributing at home games last season, contains a 4.3-inch display and provides 10 channels through which fans can individually select from a range of options, including audio programming and numerous television camera angles of the game, live updates and highlights of other games, fantasy team alerts, on-demand video, text-message boards, and concessionaires. The objective is to put every fan front-and-center.

Put another way, most of the information that is generated has been focused inward—that is, on the enterprise—and not outward—that is, on the customer.

The proliferation of electronic devices and programs that provide up-to-the-minute sports information to the individual fan are relatives of in-facility technology, from the manual scoreboard at Fenway Park to the massive JumboTron at cheap Cowboys jerseys Stadium. But, unintentionally, they do not allow the fan to choose the most individually-appropriate means through which a message is received and understood. In turn, they are a high risk for the franchise, who, despite all manner of available tools, is ultimately left to estimate what message is sent, how it is interpreted, and what are its real results.

Every professional league and plenty of amateur athletic associations offer fans access to "content" via television, internet, radio, and mobile phone. But these electronic platforms are limited in that they have been systematically built on communicating information down rather than information up. And as Peter Drucker wrote, "Information becomes communication only if the recipient understands and accepts it. If information only moves down, that may not happen."

In the meantime, rapid advancements such as smart phones, blogs, and social networking sites have shifted the focus away from technology and toward information. This shift is already redefining sports business operations, and with it, the fan experience. Yet, despite the importance and impact of this revolution, it has so far been largely ignored by all but a handful of sports business enterprises.

Recent energy and excitement of sports multimedia has centered on technology. Some evidence of this was Mobile ESPN, still the only broad attempt to act on the belief that there exists a market for a cellular phone and associated service through which sports fans could access vast amounts of sports information. Most people believe Mobile ESPN failed because it either provided redundant technological features or not enough of them. But the biggest reason for its failure is that the technology was not deployed and utilized in an appropriate time and place. And that meant the data it had the capacity to transmit had little meaning and purpose.

But hasn't this been a focus of the sports business for at least the past decade?

National Football League franchises are devoting more and more money to in-stadium technology. The latest example is the New York Giants jerseys and New York Jets partnering with Cisco and Verizon on about $100 million in technology packages that are oriented toward enhancement of the fan experience, "brand extension," and associated internal measurements at the recently-opened, $1.6 billion New Meadowlands Stadium.

Five Things To Watch

The battle behind Matt Leinart jerseys .

Sorry folks, but I felt Derek Anderson played entirely too long last week. I wanted to see Max Hall get some playing time. Don't get me wrong, I really liked what John Skelton did. His confidence was apparent, but what puzzles me is how bad he struggles in practice.

Maybe he is the type of player that thrives in the real game situations. Maybe he subscribes to the Allen Iverson Role of Practice blog. I don't know; I'm not a doctor, but I was impressed with the kid, but I want to see Max Hall this week. His practices are solid, and that should be rewarded with playing time. I would give each quarterback a quarter unless you can get away with giving Anderson no time.

LaRod Stephens-Howling
.

We know what he can do on special teams, but do you sense that Coach Whisenhunt has an expanded role for this guy? I do, in fact, he will slide into that third string running back real nice. I suspect coach doesn't want to show too much, but let's see what he can do out of the backfield after an extended look.

Andre Roberts, Max Komar, and Stephen Williams
.

I probably shouldn't worry about Andre Roberts, but with the competition so close I do. When you have guys like Williams and Komar making plays day in and day out, Roberts has to look better. The dropped balls and misread routes make it hard to give him the nod but he's a third round pick.

We are more likely to give him some more rope, but tomorrow night with Larry Fitzgerald jerseyshurt and Early Doucet healing, the wide receivers' battles are going to be intense for the next 11 days. I gotta think Williams should be a lock. The other two have to make plays for a spot on the 53.
Also, lets take another look at Darryl Washington. His first game was unbelievable, and he was everywhere the ball was. Didn't you think Karlos Dansby when you saw him play? I did. But was it a fluke? Let's see if he can move into some first team defense plays

The second cornerback
.

Who is going to step up opposite DRC? It's been quite the battle between Greg Toler and Trumaine McBride. I gotta think that Greg may one up Trumaine, but he isn't going down without a fight.

Tomorrow, we should see who is going to step up even though Tennessee isn't known for its strong passing game. Okay, so it was a pass that beat the wholesale Cardinals jerseys last year on the final play of the game which could have been the most exciting game of the year but don't expect that again. My heart says Greg will win the position, but let's watch it unfold tomorrow.

The crapshoot of MLB draft

"I just felt like I was ready to get my pro career started," he said. "When it came time to make that executive decision, I felt it was the right time for me. They had their dollar amount and we had ours, we were able to talk it out and meet in the middle."

As time went on, McGuire started realizing where his future lay.

"The Jays area scout (Eric McQueen) was a Georgia Tech grad himself, we talked last fall and he did a good job letting me play and not hounding me all the time,' said McGuire. "Then on June 7, he congratulated me after the draft."

McGuire went right down to the wire before signing with the Jays. He had the option of going back to Georgia Tech for another season and, until draft day, that's all he had been thinking.

Jenkins, a late sign whose bread-and-butter is also a hard sinker, went to instructional ball last fall and was invited to spring training where he made a good impresion with the Jays last February. He started his minor-league season at Lansing, the club's low-A affiliate and will finish it at Dunedin in high-A in cheap MLB hats .

McGuire doesn't know when and where his pro career will start but if you use Jenkins' first year as a profile, you probably won't go too far wrong.

"Sometimes it co-operates, sometimes it doesn't. I try to locate my pitches, I won't overpower anyone for the most part, but I try to locate as well as anyone. I have a changeup and breaking ball and I use them sometimes to set up other pitches, but I'd say my strikeout pitches are my fastball and slider."

"I'm a four-pitch guy, my fastball is 90-94 and I do my best to run it and sink it," said McGuire in a conference call with reporters Tuesday.

McGuire fits that profile, in much the same way that last year's No. 1, Chad Jenkins, does.

"You need pitchers who can get strikeouts and strikes in the strike zone," Anthopoulos said in that article. "All the lineups are really selective and will make you come into the zone. That puts a premium on the ability to get strikes in the strike zone."

Last week, in a Sports Illustrated interview, Anthopoulos talked about what is required in the AL East when facing the patient veteran hitters that populate the cheap Yankees hats, Red Sox and Rays.

However he makes out, his baseball profile fits the mold of the kinds of pitchers Alex Anthopoulos wants in his big-league rotation: Big power pitchers with a command of the strike zone.

Big power

The Blue Jays got their man on Monday night when the No. 11 pick, Deck McGuire, signed on the dotted line for a reported $2 million. He may, or may not, one day be included in that rare 5% grouping, but one thing is certain: Unless he has Mike Tyson for a financial advisor, he should be set for life.

In all the excitement, we need to remember there is one thing that hasn't changed: one of every 20 ― or about 5% ― of the hopeful young men who sign professional baseball contracts, will play even one game in the major leagues. That is the number quoted to me by Pat Gillick 25 years ago. From there, the odds get astronomical when talking about players who last a year, five years or a 15-year career, which makes a lot of the money that was spent on this draft class, wasted. The clubs know that, but that's the price of doing business.

5% make it

That's why the world was all a-twitter last evening in anticipation of the baseball signing deadline for this year's draftees. Yes, there's a lot of money at stake and that tends to get people's attention.

Now the draft is a 365-day industry. It doesn't yet approach the hype of the cheap NFL hats draft or, at least in Canada, the NHL draft but the amount of information is enough to make your eyes glaze over.

Used to be, and not very long ago, that the baseball draft was a non-story 364 days a year, with a 10-paragraph wrapup on draft day, citing a collection of names nobody had ever heard of and, in most cases, would never hear of again.

As have all professional sports drafts, the baseball draft has turned into something of a cottage industry. Blame the Internet or 24-hour sports news or player agents or maybe global warming.

Miami Dolphins

The NFL hats's proposed enhanced schedule does not have any real benefits that make it worth going through with.

It just adds too much danger and takes away too much of the excitement of an individual game. There is only one benefit that Miami Dolphins fans will have from this:

The perfect season.

The 1972 Miami Dolphins  darkblue hat were, and still are, the only undefeated team ever in the history of the NFL jerseys. Other teams have come close, but none have ever been able to.

The enhanced schedule will only make it harder for a team to have a perfect season because they will have to play two additional games. That is two more chances for another team to beat them. If the enhanced schedule proposition is accepted and put into play, then it is a very good possibility that there will never be another NFL team to have zero wins in an entire season.

Think about it this way: if New England Patriots  fitted blackhat had to play in 18 regular season games during their almost perfect season, then they would have just been starting the playoffs by the time the Super Bowl  jerseys actually came around. They would have had to just start worrying about playing three of the top teams in the cheap NFL hats during the playoffs instead of just one team in the Super Bowl.

I know that this isn't a good reason for the enhanced schedule. Sure, records are great and are something that should be treasured, but they still aren't worth risking injuries.

So, while Mercury Morris and Larry Csonka may be in favor of this enhanced schedule, you still should not be. I know you probably love the entertainment that 16 games provides and want more, but it is not worth risking players' health even more.

Chris Johnson vs. Adrian Peterson

Chris Johnson, RB, Tennessee Titans

In 2009, Johnson joined an elite group of backs to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a season. He also eclipsed Marshall Faulk's NFL record for most yards in a season from scrimmage. He was clearly the top fantasy back, but past success doesn't mean it'll continue in the future. Should he be the top pick in 2010?

    * His '09 stats speak for themselves: 2,006 rushing yards, 16 total touchdowns, 50 receptions and 503 receiving yards. He averaged a gaudy 5.6 yards per carry with 22 runs of 20-plus yards. The YPC is not totally out of character, either, as he averaged 4.9 in '08. Peterson's has decreased the past two seasons to settle at 4.4 last year.
    * Johnson is the focal point of this offense. He exploded last year when Vince Young took over behind center. Following Young's insertion as the starter in Week 8, Johnson ran for at least 100 yards in all 10 remaining games and scored 12 of his 14 rushing touchdowns.
    *
Chris Johnson jerseys, RB, Tennessee Titans
      Aims for 1st back-to-back 2k seasons
Consistency: Since Young took over, Johnson was as even as any player in recent memory. Peterson was all or nothing last year.
    * The '08 first-round draft pick didn't get his long-term deal this year. He's still playing for a big payday. That motivation should keep him going. He reported to OTAs thicker and stronger than last year; that could help his 5-foot-11, 200-pound frame withstand another season of 300-plus carries.
    * Tennessee doesn't plan on limiting his workload this year despite giving him 408 touches last year. They're cognizant of it, though, and will - need - to do everything to keep him healthy. He is their offense. Johnson's running style is conducive to staying healthy since he doesn't take a lot of big hits.
    * Minny added Toby Gerhart to their backfield. Will he take away a few goal line carries (and touchdowns) from Peterson? Possibly. We all know AD's troubles with holding on to the ball, too. If he can't correct that, maybe the Vikes start giving Gerhart a few more touches than Peterson's previous backups received. At the very least, he'll take away a few scores.

Closing argument: It's tough to look past his '09 workload; do you want that kind of risk with your No. 1 overall pick? Depends on the stakes. No other back offers CJ's upside, but you are taking a bit of a risk selecting him ahead of Peterson, who has more of a track record. Even still, that risk should pay off in a big way.

Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings

Fantasy football owners fall in love with last year's darlings each and every draft season. This year is no exception with the way fantasy leaguers are drooling over Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson.

I understand it, but I don't agree with it, and history is on my side. I'm not saying Johnson can't have another fine season, but he has his work cut out for him. My focus is on Adrian Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings' star rusher. He is a safer pick than CJ2K but has just as much upside. With the No. 1 overall pick, regardless of the scoring system, I'm taking Peterson 10 out of 10 times.

    * The Oklahoma Sooner standout has topped 1,340 yards and 10 touchdowns in each of his three pro seasons. In 2009, he scored a career-high 18 times.
    * The Vikings boast a strong offensive line and one of the best left sides in the league. Fullback Naufahu Tahi is a thumper and clears the way for Peterson like few others can.
    *
Adrian Peterson jerseys, RB, Minnesota Vikings
Cory drafts Peterson No. 1 All Day
Durability: Regardless of collegiate injuries and missing two games as a rookie, Peterson has held up to an extensive workload (677 carries in last two years) without missing a game. How will Johnson hold up after 408 total touches? Again, history indicates not well.
    * People accentuate AD's fumbling problems, and while I'm not saying he doesn't have an issue with it, it's overblown for fantasy purposes. Most leagues deduct one point per lost fumble, which cost Peterson a touchdown worth of points last year. Johnson lost three fumbles and scored fewer times than Peterson did. Besides, do you really believe head coach Brad Childress will sit Peterson for more than a play or two if he fumbles?
    * Receiving: Everyone points to Johnson's contributions through the aerial game, which have been impressive, but Peterson isn't a slouch in this department. He improved two years running and caught 43 passes last year for 436 yards. Third-down back Chester Taylor is gone, and Peterson may very well be the new third-down option.
    * Peterson has worked hard at improving his consistency and wants to become less of a feast-or-famine player. Johnson has spent the entire offseason away from the team while griping about his contract.

Closing argument: I don't see this being a slam dunk like so many others do. In fact, it's quite the opposite. For owners that feel more comfortable drafting Johnson first, feel free. I understand why, but don't just blindly accept that CJ is the top fantasy choice this year. It's not as simple as it looks.

Keeping It Tight With a New Era of Tight Ends

Brent Celek: Philadelphia Eagles

Even though Brent Celek is going into his fourth year as a pro, you can say that he has had only two real seasons starting. Many have considered his success a fluke. With Donovan McNabb jerseys departing Philadelphia this year, many have said that Celek's production will drastically decrease.

Disregarding my being an Eagles fan since 1989, I have a hard time believing this. Coach Andy Reid has a new young quarterback named Kevin Kolb. Kevin Kolb will have guidance from coach Reid throughout the season. Kolb will throw a lot of short passes, and by doing so, Celek will have his hands full all season.

Brent Celek's production won't decrease—I see him contributing the same amount as last year. For fantasy owners, I think Celek is a great pick. He's young, productive, and he will light up the screen come fantasy football season.

2009 stats: 76 receptions, 971 yards receiving, 8 touchdowns
Projection 2010: 77 receptions, 970 yards receiving, 9 touchdowns

Jermichael Finley: Green Bay Packers jerseys

If there were a breakout player at the tight end position that I would consider, my pen and paper would write "Jermichael Finley." Finley surprised many across the football world. He was drafted in the third round of the 2008 draft by the Green Bay Packers.

Ever since then, Jermichael Finley has shocked many skeptics with his athletic abilities. At age 23, he is only starting his career. He's a great pick for fantasy owners because he can contribute in an enormous way.

With Aaron Rodgers jerseys at quarterback, Finley will see his numbers increase over the years. His speed and size will place him at the slot position at times, and that will set him up for some deep ball plays.

2009 stats: 55 receptions, 676 yards receiving, 5 touchdowns
2010 projection: 64 receptions, 875 yards receiving, 8 touchdowns

John Carlson: Seattle Seahawks

Entering his third year as a pro football player, John Carlson has placed his feet in the NFL as a future star tight end. His numbers have stayed the same in the past two years, but the future looks great for young Carlson.

With the running game hopefully coming back in Seattle, John Carlson can expect a variety of passes from Matt Hasselback. His receiving yards did decline in the past two years, but his touchdown statistics saw a slight increase. He managed seven touchdowns in 2009, two better than in the previous year.

Moving forward, I see Carlson's role in Seattle becoming more important, especially after the loss of some receivers. If I were selecting a tight end for a fantasy football league, I would consider John Carlson a predominant player for the years to come.

2009 stats: 51 receptions, 574 yards receiving, 7 touchdowns
2010 projection: 56 receptions, 675 yards receiving, 9 touchdowns

The most important storylines at the camps I'll be visiting

WHO MAKES THE BIGGEST LEAP?

There are a number of players poised to take a big step in their careers, and it starts with an excellent training camp and preseason. Here are five guys I will be watching to see if they are ready to emerge.

» New 49ers jerseys QB Alex Smith: He finished last season strong, and all indications coming out of the locker room are that he's the real leader of the team and is ready to go to the 25-touchdown level.

» Jaguars QB David Garrard: He had a very solid offseason for Jacksonville after making the Pro Bowl a year ago. His rookie offensive tackles are now veterans, and his receivers are maturing.

» Packers TE Jermichael Finley: He is ready to explode. After talking to A.J. Hawk and Aaron Rodgers this summer, it sounds like Finley's time is now.

» Redskins TE Fred Davis: He came on strong to close last season and now gets to work with Donovan McNabb. Davis could be moving up into the 60-reception range or even higher considering Mike Shanahan loves the tight end in the passing game.

» Cardinals RB Beanie Wells: He is another player ready to make a quantum leap. Arizona moved more toward the run before Warner retired and now will lean on the ground game even more to give Matt Leinart jersey a better chance to succeed. Wells averaged 4.5 yards on 176 carries with seven touchdowns as a rookie. This year it could easily be 225 carries, 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns.

ROOKIES WHO SHOULD MAKE AN IMPACT

Rookies who miss time trying to get a contract fall so far behind that they really can't catch up and make an immediate impact. Beyond that, if opening day holds true to form, we should see between 20-25 rookies starting. With 704 total starters on offense and defense that means three to four percent will be rookies.

Here are the first-round rookies I think have the best chance to make a difference right away. Detroit's Ndamukong Suh and Jahvid Best, Kansas City's Eric Berry, San Diego's Ryan Mathews, and Seattle's Earl Thomas.

The second-round picks also have talent, but a lot less pressure, meaning there might even be a few more players who can quickly emerge. Philadelphia's Nate Allen, Miami's Koa Misi and Cleveland's Montario Hardesty are guys to watch.

HANDLING SUSPENDED PLAYERS AND HOLD OUTS

The more reps Ben Roethlisberger takes now, the less time the eventual starter while Roethlisberger is suspended gets to prepare. It is a tough balancing act, and it will be interesting to watch how coach Mike Tomlin handles practice and preseason games.

The same could be said for Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, who is suspended for four games. Replacement Xavier Adibi needs all the work he can get, especially with the Week 1 matchup against the Colts.

In San Diego, how will the Chargers deal with Marcus McNeill and Vincent Jackson if they actually decide not to show for camp? Keep in mind, Jackson has already been suspended by the league to start the season. One injury at wide receiver or tackle, and general manager A.J. Smith jersey might have to hit the open market or look for trade opportunities.

WHICH NEW COORDINATOR MAKES A DIFFERENCE?

Jim Haslett might have been criticized by some observers when he was a head coach, but as a defensive coordinator he is in his element. The former linebacker is well-versed in the 4-3 as well as the 3-4. In Washington, Haslett will build an attacking 3-4 that features Andre Carter and Brian Orakpo as the pass rushers. They had 22 sacks between them last year, and the influences of the Steelers' 3-4 will be visible as Haslett molds this defense.

Mike Nolan has to be a lot more creative taking over the Miami defense, which saw its nose tackle retire and two veteran outside linebackers (Joey Porter and Jason Taylor) get shown the door.

Charlie Weis takes over an offensive system in Kansas City that he knows inside out. He also has a quarterback in Matt Cassel who speaks the same language. We should see some early results from that combination.

As for opponents, it can be very challenging to get a feel for the new play-caller. As one NFL advance scout said, "You can throw away all of your computer scouting reports on tendencies of those teams; it's a whole new ball game."

My second stop on my camp tour is at the New York Giants jerseys. It will be very interesting to see what kind of defense Perry Fewell will bring to the G-Men.

the next face of the Falcons

The one-minute performance likely won't be the last Jackson does with ties to Atlanta. Atlanta director Kenny Leon has previously said he'd like for the "Pulp Fiction" star to play the role of Martin Luther King Jr. on Broadway. He's dressed in black and red, and stands on the 50-yard line at the Georgia Dome. His presence is commanding, and his voice is forceful and commanding when he speaks. He's leading a choir.

"I really believe the Falcons jerseys are headed in the right direction," Jackson said.

Jackson, whose ties to Atlanta include a Morehouse diploma, tells ESPN.com it was an honor to film the commercial. He also still has his Steve Bartkowski jersey, he told the magazine.

"It's time we all rise up," Jackson says in the video. "We've been knocking on the door. Now it's time to blow it up."

Instead, the Atlanta Falcons jerseys have gone Hollywood for a video promotion released Friday. Actor Samuel L. Jackson is the man urging fans and the city to "Rise Up" in the powerful production.

If you're thinking Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez jerseysor Michael Turner, you're wrong.

Five rookies who intrigue me

Dez Bryant , wide receiver, Dallas: He was the most talented wide receiver in the draft, yet he lasted until the 24th pick because people feared he was irresponsible and undependable. Now he looks like a steal for Dallas and an Offensive Rookie of the Year waiting to happen. Speculation centered on Bryant wanting top 10 money. All I know is this guy has top 10 talent and should help the Cowboys, either as one of new Tony Romo jersey's targets or as a returner.

Jimmy Clausen , quarterback, Carolina: Clausen was the second-best quarterback in the draft, but he wasn't drafted until midway through the second round. We've already talked about why potential suitors were scared off. Now it's time to talk about what it means, and it could mean trouble for Carolina's opponents. Don't tell me Clausen doesn't have something to prove. I saw what Aaron Rodgers did after lasting until the 24th pick of the 2006 draft. Clausen went 48th, and, yeah, I'd say he should have a grudge ... against everyone outside the 704 area code.

Ryan Mathews , running back, San Diego: There's a ton of pressure on anyone who follows LaDainian Tomlinson jersey into San Diego, and Ryan Mathews just drew the short straw. The Bolts love him, and it's easy to see why. He's big. He's physical. He has great vision. And he's productive, leading the nation with 157.5 yards per game as a junior. Sound familiar? It should. Mathews wore No. 21 at West High School in Bakersfield in honor of his favorite running back. "When you see this guy play," said coach Norv Turner after the Bolts traded up to acquire Mathews, "you're going to understand why we made the deal we did."

Kyle Wilson , cornerback, New York Jets: Rex Ryan said his brother Rob was interested in him in Cleveland and that the Browns considered him with the seventh overall draft pick. Makes sense to me. Some people had Wilson the best cover corner on the board. The Browns instead chose Joe Haden, and Wilson lasted until the 29th choice. Finding him there was a steal, and he could make a big difference with a team that didn't have enough cornerbacks to stop Peyton Manning a year ago.

Tim Tebow jersey  , quarterback, Denver:  So his name sells a lot of Denver jerseys. Big deal. I don't need an accountant to tell me the guy has a rock-star following. What I want to know is this: Is he qualified to play at this level? The Broncos think he is; a lot of others think he isn't. That's why they play the games.

FANTASY FOOTBALL SPIN

Stud

RB Adrian Peterson

Even in PPR leagues,  I would not shy away from taking AP in the top two and a case can be made for taking him over Chris Johnson in standard scoring leagues.

With Chester Taylor's 44 catches now in Chicago, new Peterson jersey will likely become more involved in the passing game and I'm expecting yardage totals similar to 2008, when AP had close to 1,900 total yards.  In three seasons, Peterson has never failed to top 1,300 yards and has averaged 13 TDs per season.

As long as Favre returns, defenses will be unable to focus their attention on the running game which might allow AP to top 20 touchdowns in 2010.

Overvalued

Vikings Defense /ST

The front four is one of the best in the league as evidenced by the fact that the new Vikings jerseys led the league in sacks in 2009.  However, their secondary is porous and lacks any true playmakers. CB Cedric Griffin is a below average cover corner and is likely to miss part of 2010 recovering from ACL surgery.

His apparent replacement is second round pick Chris Cook, who some GMs had pegged as a safety.

Antoine Winfield is one of the fiercest hitters in the NFL but will need to show that he's recovered from a foot injury that limited his effectiveness for most of the second half of the 2009 season.

One also must factor in the possibility that there is a good chance of suspension for the Williams wall due to the violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Percy Harvin jersey is a major plus for as long as the team will continue to take advantage of his elite kick return skills (two return TDs in his rookie season).  The Vikings current ADP has them off the board as the #2 DEF/ST but I would caution that their low turnover total from 2009 (24 turnovers: 13 fumbles, 11 interceptions) is a product of a weak secondary that might ultimately cost them a chance at an elusive Super Bowl.

Undervalued

WR Percy Harvin

The electric rookie proved his worth in 2009 emerging as the Vikings No. 2 WR and a special teams nightmare for opposing defenses.

The versatile Harvin and the creativity with which he was utilized by the Vikings coaching staff may have set a precedent for similarly small, speedy, and multi-dimensional threats (see Dexter McCluster).

The departure of Chester Taylor could lead to increased carries for the multi-talented Harvin, further increasing his fantasy value.  He caught 60 passes for 790 yards (13 yds/catch) in 2009 and has the game breaking skill to approach 1,000 yards in his 2nd year in the Vikings system.

The migraine issues are a concern but his upside potential makes him a high end WR3 / low end WR2 and ideal pick in dynasty leagues.

Top QB award: Devlin?

It's also a reminder that Delaware needs to provide the protection, blocking and run-game balance that will make it even more likely that Devlin will be at his best in 2010.

That's a prestigious honor, and a reason why Blue Hen hopes are — and should be — high this season.

Past winners include Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Matt Leinart, Matt Ryan jerseyand Colt McCoy.

The second-year transfer from Penn State is also one of 22 — and the only one from a I-AA school — on the preliminary Watch List for the 2010 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which goes to the best quarterback in college football — period.

But Devlin is even going one better there.

When this year's preliminary Watch List came out, which simply signifies preseason candidates for the award, it was no surprise that UD senior quarterback Pat Devlin was there. He deserves to be. Devlin finished 17th in the Payton voting last year (and fifth among returning players).

Several Delaware players have been candidates, including 2003 finalist Andy Hall, quarterback of the Hens' NCAA title team.

Those of us who follow Division I-AA (FCS) football are well aware of the Walter Payton jersey Award, handed annually to the nation's top offensive player at that NCAA level.

QB Matthew Stafford 'becoming a veteran and a pro'

"Yeah, I think so," he said. "Not only being in the system for another year, but having guys around that can really make plays lets us open up the playbook, do a little bit more. I think everyone's getting comfortable with each other."

Besides improving the chemistry with his No. 1 receiver, Stafford jersey also is getting more help around him with new players like receiver Nate Burleson, running back Jahvid Best and tight end Tony Scheffler. And that has helped give Stafford more options and made him feel more comfortable.

"I think he lost some of that newness and that rookie (aspect) and that sort of everything was new to him," Mayhew said during last month's minicamp. "I think he's becoming a veteran and a pro. I think he's communicating with the receivers more. I think that's big. And he's developing a good rapport with Calvin jersey (Johnson), which is important."

But Stafford's second year will be his first full season with the team, with a full complement of off-season preparation. General manager Martin Mayhew said he already has been able to see the difference in Stafford this year.

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was praised often as a rookie last season for a big arm and football intelligence.
