Willems said most hats are delivered to grieving parents

"The first thing I ever made was an angora ear warmer that tied under my chin," said Draznin. "It was white and fuzzy and I was very proud of it."

From the age of six, Sharon Draznin knew her love for knitting would stick with her for years to come. Although she grew up with her mother and aunt both knitting and crocheting, she actually learned the hobby from a neighbor. discount  Boston Red Sox HatsShe credits all three of them, though, for helping her joy for knitting take flight.

Willems said most hats are delivered to grieving parents. A number go to hospitals, and some have even been sent years after a loss as a keepsake. There was even a couple who lost one twin and wanted the keepsake hat so the survivor would have some memory of the sibling he'd never know.

"I used to knit hats and donate them to Reruns (for Kids), but this has taken over my passion," said Duval.

Willems said Duval has knitted about 99 percent of Calvin's hats, a collection that's impressive in that each (except hats made for twins) is unique.
